Words Matter
Nine years ago, at New York Conference on Diabetes, I met my friend Carol Molfetta. She is a Diabetes Educator and a nutritionist.
We were discussing clients when she suddenly stopped me mid-sentence.
“Anita,” she said, “please say ‘a person with diabetes‘ rather than ‘a diabetic‘”
This forever changed my perspective. It put the person first NOT the condition.
Do you see yourself as a ‘diabetic’ or as a person with diabetes?
