Self-Management Education
Good diabetes management begins by learning skills to cope with the daily demands of a complex condition.
Diabetes self-management education (DSME) is a critical element of care for all people with diabetes, in order to improve the quality of life.
It is described as an on-going process through which people with diabetes or at risk of diabetes gain the knowledge and skill needed to change behaviors that manage diabetes and its related conditions.
At the Diabetes Education Network DSME is guided by evidence based standards set by American Association of Diabetes Educators, American Association of Endocrinologists, and American Diabetes Association
